<a href="http://www.bakerlaw.com/">BakerHostetler</a> announced today that Eric A. Packel joined the firm as Counsel in the Philadelphia office. Mr. Packel focuses his practice on privacy, data security, and technology issues and will be a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property practice. He comes to BakerHostetler from Marshall Dennehey Warner Coleman &amp; Goggin, P.C. where he was a shareholder.

Mr. Packel has significant experience counseling major corporations on compliance with state and federal, as well as foreign data breach notification laws. He has helped clients to manage breaches in diverse industries, including banking, financial services, technology, academia, insurance, and healthcare. As part of investigations into data incidents, Mr. Packel has worked alongside the Cyber Crime division of the FBI, the U.S. Secret Service, local law enforcement, and prominent forensics experts. Mr. Packel also counsels clients in establishing information security programs and identitying theft programs pursuant to the FTC’s Red Flag Rules, HIPAA, and HITECH. He has also handled litigation matters concerning software and website development and has represented consultants and software developers in complex actions involving the design and implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning/Management software.

Mr. Packel joins one of the nation’s largest and most comprehensive practices in the area of data privacy and information security. BakerHostetler has helped clients respond to more than 600 data breaches, including 175 responses in the past year. “We are pleased to welcome Eric to BakerHostetler,” said <a href="http://www.bakerlaw.com/JosephLucci">Joseph Lucci</a>, managing partner of the firm’s Philadelphia office. “Eric is a great addition to our office and our national privacy and data protection team.”

Mr. Packel received his J.D. from Villanova University Law School (1987) and his B.A. in Business Administration from Muhlenberg College (1984).  He is admitted to practice in the state of Pennsylvania, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado, and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Philadelphia Bar Association, and is a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE).
